Salt House is a modern Australian Restaurant with a great view on the waterfront and was right behind the hotel I was staying at during my time in Cairns, the Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns. As expected for a restaurant on the water in a coastal city, they had an abundance of seafood on the menu. I, of course, started out with some oysters because I always like to get oysters as a starter at a seafood restaurant (and some of the best oysters I've had were in Australia). For my main course, I got the barramundi which is a very popular fish in Australia and almost every restaurant seemed to have some kind of variation on a barramundi dish. Barramundi is an Asian sea bass and a very important freshwater commercial fish in Australia. The one that I got was a whole fish that had been fried and had some chili sauce with a citrus element to it with some limes that was very good. The dish had Asian influence (makes sense with it being an Asian sea bass) and the fish was well cooked, flaked off, and had a pretty clean taste. It isn't an aggressive fish flavor so if that is something that puts you off from fish, you might want to give the barramundi a try! Definitely recommend getting a reservation and you can do that online through their website! The oysters, barramundi and a drink were about $60 USD.
